Coffee Stained Pages

Updated: Jan 23, 2022

I didn't realize when I started writing memories on a page, that one day I'd learn through my own words. Those lessons and struggles of being a daughter-in-law to becoming a mother-in-law provided me the opportunity to push myself into writing, I Called Her Nan.

Although my thoughts at the beginning weren't really journaling, they were Bible verses I wanted to remember. I chose the ones that related to me during any given day. Soon my pages became worn and tattered from tears and coffee stains! As each season passed, my memories became like the flowers in the above photograph. In my mind, they seemed dried up and of no value, except to me. However, I didn't want to throw them out. So I laid them within the pages.

Unlike the flowers, my words tucked inside journals and notebooks brought my memories back to life again. Through understanding that no season is wasted, I pulled from what I learned along the way with the hope of helping others. Soon the dried flowers and memories started to look different. They radiated a fresh glow that gave my old memories a new light, especially when I was able to see myself better.

Some may ask, "Do you and your daughters-in-law see you differently since you wrote the book?" My response is, that I see myself in a new light. I'm unable to speak for the girls, for I can only hope that they see the glow...most of the time anyway. :)
